Getting Started with TermStorm

This guide will help you get started with TermStorm, whether you're facilitating a workshop or participating in one.

Access TermStorm

Visit termstorm.com to access the application. No login or account is required—TermStorm runs entirely in your browser.

For Facilitators: Create a Workshop

Step 1: Create Your Workshop

  1. Click Create Workshop on the landing page
  2. Enter a Workshop Name (e.g., "Customer Domain Modeling")
  3. Add an optional Description to explain the workshop's purpose
  4. Click Create

Once your workshop is created, you'll be taken to the Overview page. Share the workshop with participants:

  • Copy Link: Click the copy button to get the workshop URL
  • QR Code: Generate a QR code for easy mobile access

TIP

The QR code is especially useful for in-person workshops where participants can quickly scan with their phones.

Step 3: Wait for Participants

Watch the participant list as people join. Each participant enters their name when they join, and you'll see them appear in real-time.

Step 4: Guide Through Stages

Use the stage controls to progress through the workshop:

  1. Collect: Participants submit concepts (timer-based)
  2. Discuss: Review and organize concepts
  3. Vote: Participants vote on concepts
  4. Copy: View results and export

Step 5: Export Results

In the Copy stage, select the concepts you want to export and copy them to Termboard for further modeling.

For Participants: Join a Workshop

Click the link shared by your facilitator, or scan the QR code with your phone.

Step 2: Enter Your Name

When prompted, enter your display name. This helps the facilitator and other participants identify your contributions.

Step 3: Contribute

Depending on the current stage, you can:

  • Collect Stage: Submit concepts using the text area (comma or newline separated)
  • Discuss Stage: View concepts and add notes when the facilitator selects one
  • Vote Stage: Vote on each concept (-1, 0, or +1)
  • Copy Stage: View the final sorted results

Understanding the Interface

The Stage Indicator

At the top of the screen, you'll see the four stages: Collect → Discuss → Vote → Copy. The current stage is highlighted.

The Timer

Many stages have a timer counting down. When time is up, the facilitator may advance to the next stage.

The "I'm Done" Button

In timed stages, click I'm Done when you've finished your contributions. This helps the facilitator know when everyone is ready to move on.
